Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to grow and achieve the meaningful relationships you want in your life. If you are tired of the same results or simply you are not happy with your current social and love life, it might be time to make a change.
Comfort Zone is:
“A place or situation where one feels at ease and without stress” (according to the Oxford dictionary)
You might be comfortable there, but not necessarily happy or content. Therefore a change should be made sooner rather than later. As many would say, and I find it to be so true, “Change is on the other side of fear.”
Here are a few tips that might help you with stepping out of your comfort zone:
• Be kind and friendly at gatherings and events—you never know who you could meet.
Talk to the new guy or girl at work, they might be great people to know. Welcoming newbies to social groups is the best way to meet people without pressure, and they will always be grateful of your kind gesture.
• Start conversations with strangers.
Practice, practice, practice… during the day we get several opportunities to talk to different people. Each day try saying hi to as many strangers as you can. Soon you’ll be able to establish new conversations and new friends.
• Ask questions.
When you are in a social setting, make an effort to ask lots of questions to guests, and listen to what others have to say. People love to share their ideas and plans.
• Try to attend events you normally wouldn’t go to. (You might learn a new skill, or a new hobby.)
Most of us only attend events we are very excited about, but guess what? You are missing out on so many things. Say YES to invitations you are not so much excited about––you never know who will you meet or what can happen!
• Smile!
Most people will warm up to you if you do. It shows confidence and approachability. If they don’t have one, give ‘em yours!! Yes, I know sometimes this is not easy, but remind yourself to smile more often, especially at social gatherings. People are naturally drawn to friendly faces.
• Be positive.
No one really likes negative people. Please refrain from complaining especially at social gatherings. You don’t want to be labeled as “difficult”.
• Join a club.
Associate with people who share your interests, either online or at a local community group. There are thousands of people in the same situation you are, and they are ready to make new friends. Volunteering is an amazing way to interact and meet others while helping the community.
• Be fun and spontaneous. Laugh and joke. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Allow yourself to be a goof ball. People love to be around authentic individuals. If you take yourself too serious they will put their guard up and will be harder to let you in their circle.
Unfortunately most people live by old habits and change is not something they want to face very often. Some say it takes about 21 days to create a new habit. Try to incorporate small changes in your routine every week and soon you’ll find out how rewarding it could be to step out of your comfort zone…
